Degree Show 2022

The 10th to 26th June was my degree show (University of Gloucestershire). Below are pictures of the display I created for my final project which was a children’s book that I wrote and illustrated called “Small”. Creating this book was really fun with many learning experiences. The story follows the struggles of a very small frog called Patrick. His personal journey is supported by his older brother Malcolm and the various other characters he meets along the way. The story covers themes of anxiety, confidence and embracing being different. This book encompasses everything I love from frogs to my passion for mental health and body positivity. I loved creating all the different characters and discovering their personalities. I also look forward to continuing exploring their stories.

For my display, I painted a large mural of the main character Patrick. The design is based upon one of the spreads within the book where Patrick is experiencing a large amount of anxiety and overwhelming feelings. I had never painted anything as large as this before so it was a fun challenge and I really enjoyed the process. I would love to do more mural projects like this in the future! Below this I made a small reading area for people to sit down and read my book. I created it too look like a pond by using two green beanbags to resemble lily pads as well as included other small handmade lily pads for decoration. Sat on one of the beanbags was a stuffed toy of Patrick which I made myself so people were able to enjoy the book alongside him! The book itself was displayed on a plinth with some of my business cards.
